Croatia Football Federation president Davor Šuker expressed his gratitude to Darijo Srna, for the contribution to the Croatia national team.

"We are all sorry that Darijo is leaving the national team after his fantastic performances at the EURO 2016, but we respect his decision, one that he already suggested before the tournament in France. Darijo has surely thought long and hard about it.

His 134 caps speak enough of his international career. His record will not be easy to break, and it represents a benchmark for all future Croatia internationals. Moreover, he became a captain, leading the national team more often than any other captain, and this confirms what kind of a player he was. Even more, what kind of a person he was. He led his teammates by example, commitment, serious approach, and his charisma.

On behalf of Croatian Football Federation, I congratulate Darijo Srna for an exquisite international career, and thank him for everything he gave to Croatian football. There will always be a place for him. Finally, I wish him all the best in his club career, as well as in private life".

Davor Šuker
