On Wednesday, the Vatreni have contributed to Segesta's birthday celebrations in Sisak, defeating the hosts 8:1 in a friendly match.

Croatia national football team, in preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying opener against Turkey, visited Sisak on Wednesday and faced hosts Segesta in a friendly match to celebrate the 110th birthday of Croatia's oldest football club.

With Modrić as the new captain, Ante Čačić's men took the lead after just seven minute, when Mandžukić struck from close range, and Kramarić doubled this following Pjaca's assist in 32nd minute. The very next move resulted n Croatia's third goal, with Pjaca's another assist and Mandžukić's another goal.

Perišić then took the stage to complete the first half, scoring to make it 4:0 in 40th minute, and finishing off with an attractive bicycle kick in the closing minutes (5:0).

In a ten-minute period inside the second half, N. Kalinić scored a brace and Čop added one more to make it 8:0, while Brozović and Kovačić came close.

As the end drew near, Kožić headed in a rebound to score Segesta's consolation goal, much to the fans' excitement, and following the final whistle both sides had enough reasons to enjoy the aftermath of this football show in Sisak.
