On Monday, Croatia begins preparations for the upcoming matches, and head coach Ante Čačić spoke at the press conference.

Croatia will play Iceland in the European qualifiers on 12 November in Zagreb, behind closed doors, and on Tuesday, 15 November, visits Northern Ireland in a Belfast friendly.

"Our desire is to finish this calendar year on a positive note and I am convinced that we will do everything to make it so. In our qualifying group there are no easy opponents, while Iceland has presented itself as a respectable and organized team throughout the previous years. However, I believe Croatia will have the upper hand in every match, and I think we can respond to Iceland's style of play. With plenty of possession, things should go our way, regardless of the lack of fan support. Northern Ireland friendly could be an opportunity for those internationals that usually play less", explained Croatia head coach Ante Čačić.

"Team spirit depends on our results as well, and Croatia aims at the top spot and the World Cup berth. Therefore, we have no choice but to play well and win", he added.

Responding to a number media representatives' questions on his players, Ante Čačić emphasized his belief that Croatia captain will be ready to help his teammates.

"Real Madrid has not asked for Modrić to be rested in any way, his recovery was a success. He could be able to lead Croatia against Iceland, and as head coach I monitor the health and current form of all of my players. True, Modrić's season was interrupted, but there are still five training sessions before the Iceland encounter", said the head coach.
