Croatia head coach Ante Čačić held a press conference following the European Qualifier against Finland.

Croatia and Finland were tied at 1:1 at the final whistle in Rijeka, as Mandžukić scored on 57 minutes to take the lead for the Vatreni, with debutant Soiri equalizing in the closing stages.

"Our expectations were different so we cannot be happy. Unfortunately, we did not manage to secure all three points, but while there is hope, we have to keep believing. We need to recover and win at least a point in Ukraine - a point that we would need even if we had won against Finland. However, now we do not have everything in our hands, despite playing a quality 60 minutes. We had the initiative, presented the desire, had several efforts on goal, but Finland was disciplined in defending. After taking the lead, we have lost control of the match and allowed Finland to create chances", says Croatia head coach Ante Čačić.

The hosts were without several first-team players due to injuries and suspension, and more trouble was yet to come.

"We all know how many players were unavailable, and then Brozović and Mandžukić picked up injuries on the pitch. Tomorrow we shall see how can we cope with the Ukraine challenge. I believe that the fans supported us well, even though they have right the express their displeasure when their team plays below the required level. I have to express my gratitude to our hosts in Rijeka, they have created the perfect conditions for us. And I do not fear possible moves of Croatian Football Federation - I am aware that reasons are analyzed following any unexpected outcome, that's a part of my job", concluded Čačić.
