Croatia national football team captain Luka Modrić wins Golden Ball award as the best player of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Following the final whistle of the Club World Cup final, with Real Madrid defeating Gremio 1:0 to defend the title, FIFA has announced the individual awards winners.

Croatia captain Luka Modrić, Real Madrid midfielder, was awarded as the best player of the tournament. Modrić assisted Ronaldo for the semifinals equalizer against Al-Jazira, and put in another excellent performance in the final match.

Last year in Japan, Modrić won the Silver Ball award. "The Croatian midfielder went one better this time, collecting the adidas Golden Ball and the Alibaba Cloud Trophy as the competition’s most outstanding player. Modric provided an assist in the semi-final against host club Al Jazira and then excelled in the final against Brazil’s Gremio", explained FIFA.

In the United Arab Emirates, Silver Ball was awarded to Ronaldo, who scored the decider in the final, with Bronze Ball awarded to Jonathan Urretaviscaya of third-placed Pachuca.
