Croatia captain Luka Modrić was awarded on Monday as the best player of the season, at the FIFA The Best event in London.

Luka Modrić, Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder - who reached the World Cup Final and won his third consecutive, fourth in total Champions League title this summer - has been voted The Best FIFA Men's Player. Modrić won with 29.05% of all the votes, beating Cristiano Ronaldo (19.08%) and Mohamed Salah (11.23%)

While expressing his gratitude to all his club and international teammates and managers, alongside Croatia '98 captain Zvonimir Boban as his footballing idol, Modrić said: "Without my family, I wouldn't have been the player and the person I am. I hope we can set an example to future generations, just as the generation of '98 set an example to us. With hard work, we can make our dreams come true. I greet everyone in my Croatia - this was a beautiful summer, one we have really enjoyed".
