Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalić has spoken following Ivan Rakitić's decision to retire from international duty.

"I have spoken to Ivan, who explained his reasons for such a move. As a head coach, I am sorry that he will not be available for selection, but I respect his decision - just like I did with Mandžukić, Subašić, and Ćorluka following the World Cup. Rakitić's love for Croatia national team has already been confirmed when he chose Croatia over Switzerland, in a very demanding situation, since he grew up in Switzerland. In over 100 caps, he was incredibly passionate to represent Croatia", Dalić said.

"Ivan has had a great international career, a no one will ever forget his calm during the decisive penalty shootouts in the World Cup. I am extremely grateful to him, for everything he's done for Croatia as team vice-captain, on and off the field, and I wish him all the best, more success and plenty of health in his club career", he concluded.
