Croatian international Ivan Perišić will miss the beginning of the forthcoming European qualifiers after injuring his shoulder in the Telekom Cup final.

In the 21st minute of the Telekom Cup final between Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, Ivan Perišić was forced to leave the pitch due to a shoulder injury. Caligiuri came on as a substitute, and unfortunately for Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking and Croatia head coach Niko Kovač, the injury proved serious.

Perišić underwent medical treatment in Munich and it was confirmed that a surgery in necessary. The surgery is scheduled Wednesday, with recovery period expected to last up to three months.

Therefore, one of the best players in the Croatian national football team at the World Cup in Brazil is ruled out for the start of the EURO 2016 qualifying campaign. Croatia awaits matches against Malta in September, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan in October and Italy in November.

Bayern won the Telekom Cup winning 3:0 against Wolfsburg, Robert Lewandowski scoring a brace, and the third coming from Sebastian Rode.
