Croatia international Mario Mandžukić got injured on the opening day of the Champions League, leaving Greece with a broken nose.

On Wednesday night, Spanish champions Atletico Madrid lost their opening match in the Champions League against Greek side Olympiakos 3:2, with Mario Mandžukić scoring the first goal for the visitors.

However, Mandžukić had his nose broken in the first half, and on Thursday underwent surgery in Madrid.

The surgery was successful, and Mandžukić will return to training on Monday, wearing a protective mask. In 10 to 14 days, he will be available for matchday selection.
