Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić will be out of action for six months, with Niko Kovač wishing him a speedy recovery.

Luka Modrić was injured in the Saturday league match against Malaga (3:1), and was immediately substituted.

Croatia midfielder was confirmed on Sunday to have sustained a right knee ligament injury. According to the Croatia national team doctor Boris Nemec, this injury will keep Modrić out of action for six weeks.

Head coach Niko Kovač spoke to Modrić and wished him a speedy recovery.

"This is not an easy situation for Modrić, to get injured again soon after regaining the playing rhythm. In the past few weeks, we have seen how important he is for Real Madrid, and we are very much aware how important he is for the national team", he said.

"Injuries are also a part of football. Modrić is dedicated to his work and I have no doubts that he will be completely committed to his recovery. I hope that Modrić will be available for Italy qualifer, but of course, we will not rush anything. His health is the most important thing", added Niko Kovač.
